Obituary:It is with great sadness that after a courageous battle with cancer our Mum passed away peacefully on Monday, October 17, 2011 in her 86th year at the Carpenter Hospice. Betty was born in Folkestone, Kent, England to Joseph and Elsie Yates and came to Canada in 1967. She leaves behind her three daughters, Pam (Robert) Guenther, Jan (Ron) Pike and Jayne Binsted (Jeff Closs). Cherished grandmother of Mandy, Nancy, Jessica, Tracy, Jodie, Garrett and Samantha. Adored great-grandmother of Reilly, Trevor, Lucas, Mikaila, Christian, Jack, Abby, Estella and Tom. Betty will be dearly missed by her granddog Coco. Mum was a Guardian Angel, knitting hats for preemie babies and teddy bears for children who were victims of crime. An avid Royalist she enjoyed knitting, sewing, reading and all types of crafts. Special thanks to Dorothy Vaitekunas of Joseph Brant Memorial Hospital for her caring and guidance. Also thanks to the wonderful staff at Carpenter Hospice for their special care. A Celebration of Life will be held at SMITH'S FUNERAL HOME, 485 Brant Street (one block North of City Hall), BURLINGTON (905-632-3333), on Friday, October 21, 2011 from 7-9 p.m. Cremation has taken place. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to The Carpenter Hospice, would be appreciated by the family.
