Conservative Government insanity

Hello Bob,
I found a very upsetting story posted on line, Aug., 24, 2012, under "CBC news - Politics"
I have copied / pasted only several paragraphs of the article (below) - your readers may find the entire story very interesting.
Joe
The Conservative government has quietly given Canada's national police force and the federal border agency the authority to use and share information that was likely extracted through torture.

Newly disclosed records show Public Safety Minister Vic Toews issued the directives to the RCMP and the Canada Border Services Agency shortly after giving similar orders to Canada's spy service.

The government directives state that protection of life and property are the chief considerations when deciding on the use of information that may have been derived from torture.

They also outline instructions for deciding whether to share information when there is a "substantial risk" that doing so might result in someone in custody being abused

Thanks Joe.... I read the story as well and it offends me that any civilized nation would allow torture as a means of garnering information, let alone my own country. We are prepared to put on trial such psychopaths as Assad for crimes against humanity yet we are condoning torture by allowing the use of such tainted information without knowing if there is any truth in it.

Does this mean that information gathered by the Syrian regime can be used against those refugees that apply to come to Canada? It has already cost the citizens of Canada 10 million dollars because we knew and condoned the torture of one of our own citizens, Mayer Arar, by Syria I might add.....

I actually watched as the Syrian Consular General to Canada, during an interview with CTV, insist that Mayer Arar was guilty .... of what? Being blindsided by the RCMP, spirited off a plane in NY City by US agents, flown to Syria, tortured and when he had nothing to provide he was sent back to Canada

While condoning the use of information obtained through torture they are telling Countries that have no morals or compassion that it is OK to commit crimes against humanity......
