Wednesday"s Vehicle - 1948 Mercury

I am not an educated man, I am a lucky man.

Born in 1944 I grew up in an era when common sense, an analytical mind and being in the right place at the right time meant more than being educated. Don’t misunderstand me, education is all important especially in today’s high tech world.

The message being conveyed to our children and grandchildren by this Harper regime is “don’t bother pursuing a career in science or technology….. there are no jobs for you” ….. if you want to succeed in the “New Canada” learn to lie, cheat and most of all learn to deny and we, your Conservative masters, will provide for you.

Nelson to Hardy - LOL

Nelson: "Order the signal, Hardy."

Hardy: "Aye, aye sir."

Nelson: "Hold on, this isn't what I dictated to Flags. What's the meaning of this?"

Hardy: "Sorry sir?"

Nelson (reading aloud): "England expects every person to do his or her duty, regardless of race, gender, sexual orientation, religious persuasion or disability.
What gobbledygook is this for God's sake?"

Hardy: "Admiralty policy, I'm afraid, sir. We're an equal opportunities employer now. We had the devil's own job getting ' England ' past the censors, lest it be considered racist."

Nelson: "Gadzooks, Hardy. Hand me my pipe and tobacco."

Hardy: "Sorry sir. All naval vessels have now been designated smoke-free working environments."

Nelson: "In that case, break open the rum ration. Let us splice the main brace to steel the men before battle."

Hardy: "The rum ration has been abolished, Admiral. It's part of the Government's policy on binge drinking."

Nelson: "Good heavens, Hardy. I suppose we'd better get on with it, full speed ahead."

Hardy: "I think you'll find that there's a 4 knot speed limit in this stretch of water. It's an environment protection initiative."

Nelson: "Damn it man! We are on the eve of the greatest sea battle in history. We must advance with all dispatch. Report from the crow's nest, please."

Hardy: "That won't be possible, sir."
Nelson: "What?"

Hardy: "Health and Safety have closed the crow's nest, Sir. No harness; and they said that rope ladders don't meet regulations. They won't let anyone up there until proper scaffolding can be erected."

Nelson: "Then get me the ship's carpenter without delay, Hardy."
Hardy: "He's busy knocking up a wheelchair access to the foredeck Admiral."

Nelson: "Wheelchair access? I've never heard anything so absurd."

Hardy: "Anti-discrimination requirements, sir. We have to provide a barrier-free environment for the differently abled"
Nelson: "Differently abled? I've only one arm and one eye and I refuse even to hear mention of the word. I didn't rise to the rank of Admiral by playing the disability card."
Hardy: "Actually, sir, you did. The Royal Navy is under-represented in the areas of visual impairment and limb deficiency."
Nelson: "Whatever next? Give me full sail. The salt spray beckons."

Hardy: "A couple of problems there too, sir. Health and safety won't let the crew up the rigging without hard hats. And they don't want anyone breathing in too much salt; haven't you seen the adverts?"

Nelson: "I've never heard such infamy. Break out the cannon and tell the men to stand by to engage the enemy."
Hardy: "The men are a bit worried about shooting at anyone, Admiral."

Nelson: "What? This is mutiny!"

Hardy: "It's not that, sir. It's just that they're afraid of being charged with murder if they actually kill anyone. There are a couple of legal-aid lawyers on board, watching everyone like hawks."

Nelson: "Then how are we to sink the Frenchies and the Spanish?"

Hardy: "Actually, sir, we're not."

Nelson: "We're not?"

Hardy: "No, sir. The French and the Spanish are our European partners now. According to the Common Fisheries Policy, we shouldn't even be in this stretch of water. We could get hit with a claim for compensation.."

Nelson: "But you must hate a Frenchman as you hate the devil."
Hardy: "I wouldn't let the ship's diversity coordinator hear you saying that sir. You'll be up on disciplinary report."

Nelson: "You must consider every man an enemy who speaks ill of your King."

Hardy: "Not any more, sir. We must be inclusive in this multicultural age. Now put on your Kevlar vest; it's the rules. It could save your life."
Nelson: "Don't tell me - health and safety again! Whatever happened to rum, sodomy and the lash?"
Hardy: ""As I explained, sir, rum is off the menu! And there's a ban on corporal punishment."
Nelson: "What about sodomy?"
Hardy: "I believe that is now legal, sir."
Nelson: "In that case, kiss me, Hardy."

Conservative Economic Management: Boom or Bust?

Conservatives.... White Washing our history

This is so typical of "the white mans" view of history.... it shames me to admit I am a white Franco/Anglo Canadian, that my ancestors and now my Federal government have "White Washed" history.

http://www2.macleans.ca/2013/07/29/written-by-the-victors/

To think that we are purging history of the truths and raising a whole new generation of children who will be misinformed is, in my mind, sacrilege.

Federal deficit balloons despite Harper agenda

Harpers "Action Plan" is to raise the deficit....... what does he not know about being an economist .... apparently .... everything

http://www.theglobeandmail.com/news/politics/federal-deficit-balloons-in-april-and-may-complicating-tory-budget-balance-promise/article13452259/

Our public debt, counting provincial obligations, is $1.2 trillion. The Federal part has gone from $450 billion to $614 billion as of today during 2006- 2012; the same period during which the. Cons. Reduced taxes in140 ways. The corporations are sitting with some $600 billion but not investing in job training, acquisitions it seems.

Total incompetence ..... now all they have to do is find the 3.1 billion they can't account for

Former top Mountie says political control over RCMP doesn’t bode well for Senate investigation

http://news.nationalpost.com/2013/05/26/former-top-mountie-says-political-control-over-rcmp-doesnt-bode-well-for-senate-investigation/?utm_source=buffer&utm_campaign=Buffer&utm_content=buffer8d0cf&utm_medium=twitter

A former RCMP superintendent says he’s never seen the degree of political control over the Mounties that exists now, and says it “does not bode well” for an objective police investigation of the Senate expense scandal.

Gary Clement, a 30-year veteran of the force who spent more than half those years working in the national capital region, told CTV’s Question Period on Sunday that the thrust of the RCMP investigation will likely centre around Section 122 of the Criminal Code and breach of trust.

“From my read of the act and what’s been alleged through the media, I think they’ve got pretty strong grounds,” Clement said.

The RCMP have been corrupted by the corrupt

A nurse on the pediatric ward, before listening to the little ones' chests, would plug the stethoscope into their ears and let them listen to their own heart. Their eyes would always light up with awe, but she never got a response equal to four-year old David's comment. Gently she tucked the stethoscope into his ears and placed the disk over his heart. 'Listen', she said...'What do you suppose that is?' He drew his eyebrows together in a puzzled line and looked up as if lost in the mystery of the strange tap - tap - tapping deep in his chest. Then his face broke out in a wondrous grin and he asked,
                                             'Is that Jesus knocking?'

Evacuation order for thousands in Slocan Valley after jet fuel spill in Lemon Creek

http://westcoastnativenews.com/evacuation-order-for-thousands-in-slocan-valley-after-jet-fuel-spill-in-lemon-creek/

What is truly frustrating is that Conservatives and their supports don't care what the true cost of the damage caused by all these spills is ...... they tell us that the cost is the responsibility of the corporations.... really? The corporations simply build it into their pricing ...... to the consumer ..... our insurance premiums increase .... bottom line .... it is you and I that pay for their F#@k ups ....

that is your Conservative governments "Economic Action Plan"

Why we love children

Why We Love Children

1 . A nursery school pupil told his teacher he'd found a cat, but it
was dead .
'How do you know that the cat was dead?' she asked her pupil .
'Because I pissed in its ear and it didn't move,' answered the child
innocently .
'You did WHAT?' the teacher exclaimed in surprise .
'You know,' explained the boy, 'I leaned over and went 'Pssst' and it
didn't move'

2 . A small boy is sent to bed by his father .
Five minutes later . . . . . 'Da-ad . . . . . '
'What?'
'I'm thirsty . Can you bring a drink of water?'
'No, You had your chance . Lights out . '
Five minutes later: 'Da-aaaad . . . . . '
'WHAT?'
'I'm THIRSTY . Can I have a drink of water??'
'I told you NO! If you ask again, I'll have to smack you!!'
Five minutes later . . . . . . 'Daaaa-aaaad . . . . . '
'WHAT!'
'When you come in to smack me, can you bring a drink of water?'

3 . An exasperated mother, whose son was always getting into mischief,
finally asked him 'How do you expect to get into Heaven?'
The boy thought it over and said, 'Well, I'll run in and out and in
and out and keep slamming the door until St . Peter says, 'For Heaven's
sake, Dylan, come in or stay out!''

4 . One summer evening during a violent thunderstorm a mother was
tucking her son into bed . She was about to turn off the light when he
asked with a tremor in his voice, 'Mummy, will you sleep with me
tonight?'
The mother smiled and gave him a reassuring hug .
'I can't dear,' she said . 'I have to sleep in Daddy's room . '
A long silence was broken at last by his shaky little voice:
'The big sissy . '

5 . It was that time, during the Sunday morning service, for the
children's sermon .
All the children were invited to come forward .
One little girl was wearing a particularly pretty dress and, as she sat
down, the minister leaned over and said, 'That is a very pretty dress .
Is it your Easter Dress?'
The little girl replied, directly into the minister's clip-on
microphone, 'Yes, and my Mum says it's a bitch to iron . '

6 . When I was six months pregnant with my third child, my three year
old came into the room when I was just getting ready to get into the
shower .
She said, 'Mummy, you are getting fat!'
I replied, 'Yes, honey, remember Mummy has a baby growing in her
tummy . '
'I know,' she replied, but what's growing in your bum?'

7 . A little boy was doing his math homework .
He said to himself, 'Two plus five, that son of a bitch is seven .
Three plus six, that son of a bitch is nine . . . . '
His mother heard what he was saying and gasped, 'What are you doing?'
The little boy answered, 'I'm doing my math homework, Mum . '
'And this is how your teacher taught you to do it?' the mother asked
'Yes,' he answered .
Infuriated, the mother asked the teacher the next day, 'What are you
teaching my son in math?'
The teacher replied, 'Right now, we are learning addition . '
The mother asked, 'And are you teaching them to say two plus two, that
son of a bitch is four?'
After the teacher stopped laughing, she answered, 'What I taught them
was, two plus two, THE SUM OF WHICH, is four . '

8 . One day the first grade teacher was reading the story of Chicken
Little to her class . She came to the part of the story where Chicken
Little tried to warn the farmer . She read, ' . . . . and so Chicken Little
went up to the farmer and said, 'The sky is falling, the sky is
falling!'
The teacher paused then asked the class, 'And what do you think that
farmer said?'
One little girl raised her hand and said, 'I think he said:
'Holy Shit! A talking chicken!''
The teacher was unable to teach for the next 10 minutes .

9 . A certain little girl, when asked her name, would reply, I'm Mr .
Sugarbrown's daughter . '
Her mother told her this was wrong, she must say, 'I'm Jane
Sugarbrown . '
The Vicar spoke to her in Sunday School, and said, 'Aren't you Mr .
Sugarbrown's daughter?'
She replied, 'I thought I was, but mother says I'm not . '

10 . A little girl asked her mother, 'Can I go outside and play
with the boys?'
Her mother replied, 'No, you can't play with the boys, they're too rough . '
The little girl thought about it for a few moments and asked,
If I can find a smooth one, can I play with him?'

What A Museum Did To Attract Visitors

The Rijksmuseum in Holland had an idea:

Let's bring the art to the people and then, hopefully, they will come to see more - at the museum.

They took one painting of Rembrandt’s from 1642, “Guards of the Night†and brought to life the characters in it, placed them in a busy mall and the rest you can see for yourself!

Cosmetic surgery

Two elder women were having lunch together, and discussing the merits of cosmetic surgery.

The first woman said, "I need to be honest with you, I'm getting a boob-job."

The second woman responded, "Oh, I'm thinking of having my arse-hole bleached!"

"Oh! Dear!" replied the first woman. "I just can't picture your husband as a blonde!"

DISCOUNTS FOR SENIORS = oi vey !

I understand this is mainly done in the US, but we should start asking for our Senior Discounts wherever we shop.  What the heck, haven't we earned them?  This story is not really mine but a friend passed it on to me.  If we get a minimum of 10% off most of what we buy, it will help pay our income tax at the end of the year.

for senior friends and relatives.
As I was waiting in line behind an older gentleman at Wendy's recently, I heard him ask for his senior discount. The girl at the register apologized and charged him less. When I asked the man what the discount was, he told me that seniors over age 55 get 10% off everything on the menu, every day.
Being of 'that' age myself, I figured I might as well ask for the discount too.
This incident prompted me to do some research, and I came across a list of restaurants, supermarkets, department stores, travel deals and other types of offers giving various discounts with different age requirements. I was actually surprised to see how many there are and howsome of them start at the young age of 50 .
This list may not only be useful for you, but for your friends and family too.
Dunkin Donuts gives free coffee to people over 55 .
If you're paying for a cup every day, you might want to start getting it for FREE.

I've learned....

If you will take the time to read these. I promise you'll come away with an enlightened perspective. The subjects covered affect us all, on a daily basis:

They're written by Andy Rooney, a man who had the gift of saying so much with so few words. .........Enjoy.........

I've learned...That the best classroom in the world is at the feet of an elderly person.

I've learned.... That when you're in love, it shows.

I've learned.... That just one person saying to me, 'You've made my day!' makes my day.

I've learned.... That having a child fall asleep in your arms is one of the most peaceful feelings in the world.

I've learned.... That being kind is more important than being right.

I've learned.... That you should never say no to a gift from a child.

I've learned.... That I can always pray for someone when I don't have the strength to help him in some other way.

I've learned.... That no matter how serious your life requires you to be, everyone needs a friend to act goofy with.

I've learned.... That sometimes all a person needs is a hand to hold and a heart to understand.

I've learned.... That simple walks with my father around the block on summer nights when I was a child did wonders for me as an adult.

I've learned.... That life is like a roll of toilet paper. The closer it gets to the end, the faster it goes.

I've learned.... That we should be glad God doesn't give us everything we ask for.

I've learned.... That money doesn't buy class.

I've learned.... That it's those small daily happenings that make life so spectacular.

I've learned.... That under everyone's hard shell is someone who wants to be appreciated and loved.

I've learned.... That to ignore the facts does not change the facts.

I 've learned.... That when you plan to get even with someone, you are only letting that person continue to hurt you.

I've learned.... That love, not time, heals all wounds.

I've learned.... That the easiest way for me to grow as a person is to surround myself with people smarter than I am.

I've learned.... That everyone you meet deserves to be greeted with a smile..

I've learned.... That no one is perfect until you fall in love with them.

I've learned... That life is tough, but I'm tougher.

I've learned.... That opportunities are never lost; someone will take the ones you miss.

I've learned.... That when you harbor bitterness, happiness will dock elsewhere.

I've learned.... That I wish I could have told my Mom that I love her one more time before she passed away.

I've learned.... That one should keep his words both soft and tender, because tomorrow he may have to eat them.

I've learned..... That a smile is an inexpensive way to improve your looks.

I've learned..... That when your newly born grandchild holds your little finger in his little fist, that you're hooked for life.

I've learned.... That everyone wants to live on top of the mountain, but all the happiness and growth occurs while you're climbing it.

I've learned.... That the less time I have to work with, the more things I get done.

To all of you.... Make sure you read all the way down to the last sentence.

It's National Friendship Week. Show your friends how much you care. Send this to everyone you consider a FRIEND, even if it means sending it back to the person who sent it to you. If it comes back to you, then you'll know you have a circle of friends. HAPPY FRIENDSHIP WEEK TO YOU!!!!!! YOU ARE MY FRIEND AND I AM HONORED! Now send this to every friend you have!! And to your family. This was sent to me by a friend

The man behind the desk

Harper has corrupt friends in high places...

Why is it every time one of Stephen Harpers good friends is arrested and found guilty that he claims he knew nothing about it???

U.S. District Judge Irma Gonzalez issued a warrant for his arrest, and authorities believed he was hiding in Canada.

Jacobson was arrested by the Toronto Police Fugitive Squad at his Toronto condominium, not long after a photo of him posing with Prime Minister Stephen Harper and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu at an Ottawa reception started circulating online.

Staff at the Prime Minister’s Office said Harper knew nothing of the charges against Jacobson at the time the photo was taken.

Jacobson has long boasted of having friends in high places, and has taken credit for introducing then-Immigration Minister Jason Kenney to Netanyahu. He also boasted to an Israeli journalist in 2009 of having close connections to Harper.

“He said, ‘I have a great relationship with Stephen Harper,’” Amir Kurz told CTV News, adding that Jacobson told him that he “creates relationships between Israel and Canada.”

Between 2004 and 2011, Jacobson also reportedly gave about $10,000 to the Conservative Party. The party did not respond to a question from CTV asking if it would rescind the donation.
When asked by CTV News Wednesday whether his deportation will affect his place in Canadian high society, Jacobson replied: “I think everything will be fine.”

Arthur Porter, Nathan Jacobson as well as staff and advisors over the years who have taken advantage of Canadians yet Stephen harper continues this pattern of denial....

My winter of life

You know. . . time has a way of moving quickly and catching you unaware of the passing years. It seems just yesterday that I was young, just married and embarking on my new life with my mate. Yet in a way, it seems like eons ago, and I wonder where all the years went. I know that I lived them all. I have glimpses of how it was back then and of all my hopes and dreams.

But, here it is... the winter of my life and it catches me by surprise...How did I get here so fast? Where did the years go and where did my youth go? I remember well seeing older people through the years and thinking that those older people were years away from me and that winter was so far off that I could not fathom it or imagine fully what it would be like.

But, here it is...my friends are retired and getting grey...they move slower and I see an older person now. Some are in better and some worse shape than me...but, I see the great change...Not like the ones that I remember who were young and vibrant...but, like me, their age is beginning to show and we are now those older folks that we used to see and never thought we'd be. Each day now, I find that just getting a shower is a real target for the day! And taking a nap is not a treat anymore... it's mandatory! Cause if I don't on my own free will... I just fall asleep where I sit!

And so...now I enter into this new season of my life unprepared for all the aches and pains and the loss of strength and ability to go and do things that I wish I had done but never did!! But, at least I know, that though the winter has come, and I'm not sure how long it will last...this I know, that when it's over on this earth...its over. A new adventure will begin!

Yes, I have regrets. There are things I wish I hadn't done...things I should have done, but indeed, there are many things I'm happy to have done. It's all in a lifetime.
So, if you're not in your winter yet...let me remind you, that it will be here faster than you think. So, whatever you would like to accomplish in your life please do it quickly! Don't put things off too long!! Life goes by quickly. So, do what you can today, as you can never be sure whether this is your winter or not! You have no promise that you will see all the seasons of your life...so, live for today and say all the things that you want your loved ones to remember...and hope that they appreciate and love you for all the things that you have done for them in all the years past!!
"Life" is a gift to you. The way you live your life is your gift to those who come after. Make it a fantastic one.
LIVE IT WELL!
ENJOY TODAY!
DO SOMETHING FUN!
BE HAPPY !
HAVE A GREAT DAY

Remember "It is health that is real wealth and not pieces of gold and silver.
LIVE HAPPY IN THE REST OF 2013!
LASTLY, CONSIDER THE FOLLOWING:
TODAY IS THE OLDEST YOU'VE EVER BEEN, YET THE YOUNGEST YOU'LL EVER BE SO - ENJOY THIS DAY WHILE IT LASTS.
~Your kids are becoming you......but your grandchildren are perfect!
~Going out is good.. Coming home is better!
~You forget names.... But it's OK because other people forgot they even knew you!!!
~You realize you're never going to be really good at anything.... especially golf.
~The things you used to care to do, you no longer care to do, but you really do care that you don't care to do them anymore.
~You sleep better on a lounge chair with the TV blaring than in bed. It's called "pre-sleep".
~You miss the days when everything worked with just an "ON" and "OFF" switch..
~You tend to use more 4 letter words ... "what?"..."when?"... ???
~Now that you can afford expensive jewelry, it's not safe to wear it anywhere.
~You notice everything they sell in stores is "sleeveless"?!!!
~What used to be freckles are now liver spots.
~Everybody whispers.
~You have 3 sizes of clothes in your closet.... 2 of which you will never wear.
~But Old is good in some things: Old Songs, Old movies, and best of all, OLD FRIENDS!!
Stay well, "OLD FRIEND!" Send this on to other "Old Friends!" and let them laugh in AGREEMENT!!!
It's Not What You Gather, But What You Scatter That Tells What Kind Of Life You Have Lived.

Premiers right to oppose Harper government’s Canada Job Grant

I've posted my comments on Harpers so called "Job Training Grant" and apparently Canadians across the country, particularly conservative puppets, believed that there was a true plan in place..... well fools..... there is not.....

It’s no wonder the provinces want nothing to do with it. The Harper government announced earlier this year that it would claw back 60 per cent of provincial transfers for skills training, effectively killing many well-established jobs programs across the country. In their place, the feds vowed to create a $900-million grant program for employers looking to train people for particular jobs, which would be funded in equal parts by Ottawa, the provinces and the private sector.

Except the provinces were never consulted.

In other words, provincial governments have been asked to slash their own programs, some of which have been honed over decades; to relinquish their traditional responsibility for job training; and to find an extra few hundred million dollars in their budgets to contribute to an untested federal grant, which does not take into account unique provincial contexts and was designed without consultation and imposed out of the blue.

In typical Harper fashion he is using a 3rd World approach to running Canada and dictating to the Provinces.

Harper government is disrespecting our veterans

Hi all,

Please give this the widest distribution.

I've listened to the arguments presented by both sides in the current Court proceedings to determine if the Miller Thompson/ Equitas law suit can proceed.

Regardless of the outcome, Government lawyers taught us a very important lesson this week about how the Government views Veterans. They based their argument and it's now a matter of public record in a court of law that the Government feels:

1. veterans are essentially no different than any other citizen collecting other social benefits (welfare, unemployment, etc) and we are owed nothing more.

2. there is no 'Social Contract' between veterans, the Government and the People of Canada despite it being written through out legislation and in CF publications.

3. that if citizens (Veterans in the case of the NVC) don't like the Government's laws, we are free to replace the Government through an election.

Shocking statements showing Government's arrogant, disrespectful and aggressive adversarial position against us. You may recall that as an election promise, the Conservative party committed to improving veterans benefits. Instead of changing the offending parts of the NVC that they opposed in opposition, they adopted the Liberal Government's NVC as if was their own. Now they are wasting what can amount to millions of taxpayers dollars to defend it in the courts, in a breach of our 'Social Contract' and potential breach of Constitutional law, just like they did in their losing battle against Dennis Manuge in the SISIP court case.

This was a mere 72 years ago....
Makes complaining about no cell service, high gasoline prices, not
Enough cable channels, seem a bit ludicrous.

Forward this to remind our kids and others of what really tough times are like.
They don't have a clue.

This reminds me to be grateful for what I do have.
Start each day with a smile and a prayer

Thanks Win
