Sad news

Dorothy,"Dot" (Thomas) Naylor passed away yesterday from cancer'

Thanks Cliff..... our thoughts and prayers are with her family and friends

I watched Craig Oliver on Power Play

Does he ever watch himself? Does he even remember what he said in the past? Does he ever watch the news?

I don’t believe he does. He just rattled on that Justin Trudeau broke an election promise when he changed the number of refugees coming to Canada by year end. He insisted that the media should not let him off the hook.

This is the same Craig Oliver who, before the election, insisted that the numbers were too optimistic and stated emphatically that Canadians would forgive him if he doesn’t meet the target. I guess Craig Oliver is not one of those Canadians.

He whined about how the Liberals had now changed the figure to 10,000 privately sponsored refugees rather than government sponsored but he, and CTV, continually reported long before the election that there were private sponsors across the country prepared to sponsor refugees NOW however it was the Harper government that was dragging its heels and delaying the refugees.

He then complained that they would only bring in 15,000 government sponsored refugees by February and then another 10,000 by 2016.

Seriously Craig? You are complaining about the first wave being privately sponsored when we, including yourself, knew there were thousands of benevolent Canadians waiting to help, that there was no pressure on the Harper government to break out the checkbook but you expected Justin Trudeau to?

I would tell you to get off your high horse but you are a jackass sitting on a donkey.

From FaceBook

Shane MacLeod
Facebook friends. Do not listen to the lies being told by CTV news or any news station about CFB Kingston. We are not being forced out of our shacks to make room for the refugees. We are however being moved into other shacks on the opposite side of base to make room for them. This is not a big deal other than the loss of single quarters, which is something we are all used to living with.

This is how the BBC sees Justin Trudeau

ONE PISSED OFF SENIOR – My view of the Islamic State from my armchair

What to believe, we get so much spin and opinion from the CIA, CSIS, MI-5, media pundits, security experts etc; etc; How in the hell are we supposed to know what is hyperbole and what is reality. Experts, at least that what they are called in the media, are pumping us full of opinion that many of us convert into fact. We then convey our opinion as something we know to be true…. Because an expert said it was. Really?

I don’t know and I don’t profess to be an expert but, I do have a point of view that I have come to by discarding the bullshit and deciphering the opinions.

Upper most on the bullshit scale is “the Islamic State represents Muslims”. If you believe that then you are nothing more than an ignorant bigot. The way I see the Islamic State is they are a well trained and organized group of fighters who are intent on purging the Middle East of Shia and Christians, actually anyone who is not Sunni or does not follow the dictates of the Sunni beliefs.

Unlike the PLO of the past the Islamic State does not appear to have a country or a particular cause other than to create a pure race of Sunni Muslims. They make no specific demands that would allow for a basis of negotiation other than the life of a captive and then it only involves money.

There are those of you who call for the carpet bombing or nuking of the Middle East, what a sick view, kill millions of innocent people, to what end. The problem is NOT Muslims it is a group of some 30,000 out of the Worlds 1.6 billion practicing Muslims.

There is collusion between the Islamic State and certain countries in the Middle East, it becomes painfully obvious when one looks at those countries that have shut their doors to refugees yet provide financial aid to countries who grant them refuge.

So who trained the Islamic State? Who financed their start up?

Not one of the NATO or coalition countries will speak up and say it out of fear of the Ayatollah’s of oil. So why should we believe what they tell us?

Feds can’t retroactively protect CSIS sources in torture lawsuit, says judge

A law protecting the identities of CSIS sources can’t be applied retroactively to the case of three men suing the federal government over their detention and torture in Syria and Egypt, the Federal Court has ruled.
As part of an ongoing lawsuit seeking compensation for what they argue was a breach of their Charter rights and complicity by Canadian officials in their torture, three Canadian citizens — Abdullah Almalki, Ahmad El Maati and Muayyed Nureddin — have asked for the release of redacted information on their case to the court, including the identities of CSIS employees and sources involved. The three were sent to Syria — El Maati was later sent to Egypt — and were interrogated and tortured between 2001 and 2003, along with fellow Canadian Maher Arar, who received $10 million in compensation from the government. Not one of them was ever charged with terror offences and Almalki is seeking $100 million in damages.
The three men are challenging government efforts to avoid disclosing the identities of CSIS employees and sources who may have been involved, citing national security. After Bill C-44 became law on April 23, 2015, the attorney general argued that its protection should be extended retroactively to the current case.
C-44 prevents courts from compelling the release of information that could disclose the identity of CSIS human sources. Prior to the bill coming into force, decisions on the release of such information were made case-by-case based on whether they met the threshold for disclosure under a standard known as the Ribic test.
In a new ruling, Federal Court judge Richard Mosley said that the additional protections under C-44 would not apply to this case and that the Ribic test would remain the standard for disclosure in this case.

ONE PISSED OFF SENIOR – I AM GIDDY WITH EXCITEMENT

I can’t help it…. My government is doing everything it can to help 25,000 refugees. How exciting is that?

I cannot even begin to imagine the gamut of emotions that these men, women and children will be experiencing, from the depths of despair to euphoria to anticipation of what is to come to wonderment of what the future will bring. They must have hundreds of questions, will I like Canada? Will Canadians like me? Where will I live? Where will my children go to school? How will I communicate with Canadians? Can I work in Canada?

As a father, grandfather and great grandfather I can sympathize and understand a parents worry, these people are no different than you or I, family matters and getting your children to a safe haven is paramount.

Just a few short years ago the people of Syria lived a somewhat normal life, albeit under a tyrant, but life in the major centers had a modicum of normality to it. Granted they had to watch what they said about their government or the secret police would pay them a visit. Then drought hit the area and farms were lost, people moved into the major centers, there were very few job opportunities and much discontent in the governments inaction. An uprising was in the making and powerful countries such as America and Great Britain were prepared to assist in the overthrow even the Harper government assisted. Russia supported the tyrant Assad and supplied armaments in the confusion the door was left open to a newly formed group of warriors and terrorists, the Islamic State.

Let’s not forget that the CIA used Syria as a base for rendition and torture of suspected al-Qaida members.

Imagine living life not knowing who to trust, the government, the rebels or the Islamic State. Imagine not knowing who was going to kill you, rape your wife or your daughter.

Now imagine fleeing to a country that was not your own, being housed in a tent city with millions of others in the same predicament, relying on the kindness of charitable organizations and well meaning people with foreign accents speaking other languages.

Suddenly you have won the lottery. You are one of the chosen few out of some 1 million refugees to be going to Canada.

 How bloody exciting is that?

Be a part of the solution rather than the source of the problem. Help end the bigotry, lies and prejudices, open your arms and your hearts and welcome these new immigrants.

Stephen Harper and the "Peter Principal".... Screwing taxpayers for years to come

What does this mean for the new government and the Canadian taxpayer?

It means that if these people fail to follow the policies of the new government or try to inject the philosophy of the previous government into their departments and firing them means major payouts.

Do not forget that these appointees are major contributors to the CPC.... with your tax dollars

Doomed Harper government made 49 “future” patronage appointments

Former Conservative Prime Minister Stephen Harper’s cabinet quietly stacked government agencies and Crown corporations with dozens of “future appointments,” and early appointment renewals in the dying days of its regime, many of which were only scheduled to go into effect long after the Conservatives were defeated, iPolitics has learned.
While some had been due to come up for renewal in November and December, others were renewed up to a year in advance of when they had been scheduled to expire and made effective the date the appointees’ current term was due to end.
For example, Mark O’Neill’s term as director of the Canadian Museum of History wasn’t scheduled to expire until June 2016. Last June, Harper’s cabinet renewed his $212,700 to $250,200 a year job for five years, effective June 2016.
John Badowski’s appointment as chairman of the Transportation Appeal Tribunal was renewed July 28. The renewal takes effect Jan. 1, 2019, and runs until July 29, 2020. The position currently pays between $174,700 and $205,500.
A review by iPolitics of order in council appointments by the Harper government found 49 appointments were made in recent months but scheduled to only take effect after the Oct. 19 election. Of the 49 appointments, 15 went into effect between election day and November 22. Six take effect today.
Another 28 are slated to go into effect between November 26 and January 2019.

ONE PISSED OFF SENIOR – THE HITLER SYNDROME

Intimidation, Fear, Retaliation, Incarceration, Beating, Rape, Death

These are just a few of the things many of the refugees have experienced but still there are those who say “Why don’t they stand up and report these terrorists”?

Would you if you had been subjected to these conditions? I doubt it.

Oh sure, it’s easy to criticize from the comfort of your armchair in your white Anglo-Saxon neighborhood, but if the rich kid down the street is dealing drugs you turn a blind eye yet when a motorcycle gang rides through your neighbor hood you look away out of fear. You refuse to visit certain parts of your city because of fear and intimidation, and then wonder why others don’t do something.

Intimidation and fear is why sectarian violence still exists to this day in Northern Ireland or in pockets of cities in America where organized crime is a major business. Intimidation by the various gangs and mafias is a reality and is why they continue to flourish.

Many of these refugees and immigrants come from a country where there is a great distrust of their government and their police I dare you to stand in their shoes for a week. You would be whimpering and wetting you pants out of fear.

These people have shown extreme courage and determination in their fight to survive and should be a source of inspiration rather than a target of your Hitler Syndrome.

Talk is easy, criticism is cheap.

I Think You're The Father of One of My Kids...

A guy goes to the supermarket and notices a very attractive woman waving at him.
She says, 'Hello.'

He's rather taken aback because he can't place where he knows her from. So he asks, 'Do you know me?'
To which she replies, 'I think you're the father of one of my kids.'

Now his mind travels back to the only time he has ever been unfaithful to his wife.
So he asks, 'Are you the stripper from the bachelor party that I made love to on the
pool table, with all my buddies watching, while your partner whipped my butt with wet celery?'
She looks into his eyes and says calmly, 'No, I'm your son's teacher.'

When Religion and Libertarians merge – Religious intolerance is on the rise

On Saturday the 18th of April, 2015, as I stood watching the communion of my grandson, I began to think about how my Canada had changed, going from religious and cultural intolerance in the early part of the 20th century to being the leaders in human rights, compassion and a home to the down trodden by the latter part of the century, only to be thrust back in time some one hundred years in first part of the 21st century.

You would be hard pressed to find me sitting in a pew on Sunday’s but that does not mean that I don’t believe or have a religion based upbringing, it simply means I am disillusioned with my government and those who claim to be “religious”.

Having grown up in a mixed religious environment, dad and his family were Catholics while mom’s family were Evangelical Protestant, we attended Bethany Presbyterian, what was then the remnants of the French Protestant Evangelical movement in Quebec. My great great grandfather Basile Piche converted to Protestantism in 1850 and was instrumental in the French Protestant movement in Quebec. The Piche family along with Madam Feller established missionary schools in Point aux Tremble and Grande Linge, Quebec.

Both schools were run as boarding schools and catered to Catholic and Protestant children. In the 1919 paper sent home with students of Point aux Trembles Missionary School there is a paragraph that stands out as being inflammatory which explains the eventual failure of the movement.

That paragraph reads in part….

“The Roman Catholic students, over one hundred in number, follow the religious course of the school. At first they may not give their full attention to it, but the teaching is so directed as to show the points common to both Protestants and Catholics. Soon a great interest is manifested, questions are asked, the Bible is studied, verses are committed to memory and Roman Catholics are asking for enlightenment.”

That was 1919, and as time passed and the population of Canada grew its people became more accepting and more tolerant, laws were enacted to protect and educate the general public. With this new found tolerance came a wave of immigration and new religions many Canadians, those who were second, third and fourth generation, reverted back to the old ways of intolerance to these new Canadians but our government once again stepped up and made it clear that we, as a people, were to work together for the betterment of the whole country.

Dad’s first wife died shortly after giving birth to a girl and not long after he met mom fell in love and asked her to marry him. Because of their religious differences they decided to elope. They married, however neither had the courage to tell their families so after the wedding they each went to their own home. This was 1942 and there was little religious tolerance between Catholic and Protestant let alone an Evangelical Protestant family hell bent “to give to the youth of Quebec a knowledge of the pure gospel of Jesus Christ”.

To compound matters dad was a single father so when they decided to tell their families they were in love and wanted to marry, yes they left out the part of already being married, so when both families accepted their love for each other wedding plans were quickly made, a date was set, on that auspicious day the family gathered for the grand union, but not all would go smoothly, as they stood at the altar the minister asked “does anyone know why these two should not be joined in holy matrimony” a woman in back, who had also been in church February 14th 1942, the date of their first marriage, spoke up saying “they are already married”.

Dad, being the dutiful husband decided to bring his daughter up in the Protestant faith despite her having been baptized Catholic. He sang in the choir at Bethany and played Santa at Christmas becoming an integral part of church life.

As I am typing this I am reminded of the time he told me that the Catholic Church has a saying “Give me a child until they are eight, and they will be mine forever”. I believe that to this day. It didn’t dawn on me at the time but he was nearing the end of his life and shortly after he passed away my mother told me a family friend had quietly taken him to confession, this was 1987 and he had not been to confession since marrying mom in 1942, he was a good man but not without fault, they likely had to change priests several times during his confession of living forty-five years as a guilt free Protestant.

His daughter, my sister, was raised in the Presbyterian Church alongside me, when she married she returned to the Catholic faith and at one point she decided to join the Pentecostal church latter returning to the Catholic Church.

Our entire family, dad’s eight brothers and sisters and mom’s family were all tolerant and accepting of others, it was a family trait rather than a religious based belief and I am thankful for that. My wife and I have tried to instill that belief in our four children.

The thing people of differing religions must realized is that whether they are Sikh, Hindu, Muslim Catholic, Hebrew or Protestant is that we all believe in a higher being and have hopes of one day meeting in the afterlife.

Compassion, tolerance and respect for others should not require legislation however when they become a subliminal message from ones government and the electorate fails to protect society from these acts it is inevitable that there is a loss or respect for one another and a distrust of the government.

Halifax 2015 the 7th annual Halifax International Security Forum..... a War Mongers Paradise

Halifax offers last stand for Harper’s war machine

For what it’s worth, Adolf Hitler kicked off the 7th annual Halifax International Security Forum.
The lights in the amphitheater dimmed, and the packed room in the Westin Hotel turned its collective attention to the three big screen TVs on the walls.
There was the Fuhrer in grainy black and white — and that barking, ferocious voice cracking with hatred and belligerence. The images of the Nazi leader were deftly intercut with ISIS beheadings, shots of a smouldering Pearl Harbour, destruction in Syria, Eichmann’s hideous death camps, the huge Swastika being blown up above the Nazi parade square in Nuremberg in 1945 — even a haunting image of Anne Frank.
It was an unsubtle, no-heart-strings-left-untugged curtain-raiser for the some of the political and military elites present, a kind of Two Minutes of Hate for the “good guys”. International security is a huge industry and these were its captains, colonels, generals and political back-scratchers, there to justify their enormous power and budgets — and, of course, to keep everyone safe. There was more gold braid and medals on display than at a Coronation or a royal funeral.
Words boomed from the movie-theatre sound system, playing a supporting role in this visceral video collage of war and remembrance. “Never have so many owed so much to so few” — “whatever the cost may be, we will never surrender.”
The iconic words carried resonances into the heart as well as the head — as all good propaganda does. Thoughts quickly give way to feelings. Just as the video, with its booming soundtrack, came to an end, the screen lit up with a giant picture of Justin Trudeau and the words “Better is always possible.” Better war-making against the evil ones, what?
